In this webinar I will introduce the basic physics of the fusion of light and matter in state-of-the-art photonic structures and light emitting semiconductor materials. Such hybridisation leads to the formation of a new type of particles called “polaritons”. At high densities polaritons undergo ‘condensation’ forming droplets of liquid-light on the micron scale. In this new form of matter, all states within the droplet are coherent and become indistinguishable from one another. Following from the fundamental properties of polariton condensates, I will present the latest results in the development of novel technologies that are based on interacting droplets of liquid-light and which can address some of the most complex problems known to humanity currently inaccessible to supercomputers.
